Twelfth Night

Carlisle needed a return to culture after the COVID lockdowns. We staged this production at Carlisle Cathedral’s stunning historic fratry, which provided a perfect backdrop for a story about separation and reunion.

We partnered with Whistling Crew Productions Co. to bring this vision to life. The production merged the classical text with modern energy in the context of social unrest, depicting the storm at the beginning of the play as a protest that separates the siblings. The historic stone walls were illuminated by bold projections and original live music drove the narrative forward.

The show explored themes of identity, gender, and cyberbullying, remaining funny and romantic while speaking to a contemporary audience. The sold-out production received massive acclaim and proved that Shakespeare still speaks to Cumbria.
